Oldest Memon Organization Established & Functional in India.


Year-1933

The Memon Educational & Welfare Society established at Calcutta by renowned Sir Adamjee Haji Dawood who remained to his death a father figure in the Educational transformation of the Community.


Year-1953

Office of The Memon Educational & Welfare Society shifted to Bombay from where it started its present operations. An amount of Rs. 64,000.00 was distributed by way of scholarships to needy Memon students, a figure that has progressively increased over the years.


Year-1965

The Memon Educational & Welfare Society completed construction of 7 buildings in Jogeshwari, a suburb of Bombay, to accommodate 184 Memon families. It is known as 'Ahmed Oomerbhoy Memon Colony'.


Year-1968

The Memon Educational & Welfare Society started two full-fledged High Schools for Boys and Girls known as the Farooq Sattar Oomerbhoy High School for Boys and Girls in memory of late 'Farooq', where children are inducted at Kindergarten level and leave after completion of High School ( S. S. C. ). Both Schools are recognized by the Government of Maharashtra and receive grants from it. It is indeed a matter of pride that both of them have been adjudged as the 'Best' amongst 'Urdu Schools' in Mumbai and in that capacity been entitled to receive additional special grants. The Principals of both Schools have also been adjudged as the 'Best Head Master' and 'Best Head Mistress' respectively. The Schools are managed through the Bombay Memons Education Society, an associate of The Memon Educational & Welfare Society.


Year-1986

Memon Educational & Welfare Society started a composite High School known as Patel High School, dedicated to the memory of 'Zainabbai Patel' in Mumbra, which also provides education from Kindergarten to S. S. C. level. It is a leading High School of Mumbra.


Year-1999

The Memon Educational & Welfare Society inaugurated the 'Ahmed Abdulla Garib Technical Institute' at Kausa, out of a munificent donation by Mahmood A. Garib to commemorate his illustrious father who at one time served the Society as President. The cost incurred in establishing the 'A A G T I ' was Rs. 20 million, including Rs. 5 million for equipment alone.


Year-2002

Ahmed Abdulla Garib Private Industrial Training Institute' is affiliated to the DGET - Directorate General Employment & Training, New Delhi. It is conducting various employment oriented courses including I T I trades of the Government of India such as COPA - Computer Operator & Programming Assistant, Draughtsman - Civil, Draughtsman - Mechanical, Electrician, Fitter, Mechanic Motor Vehicle, Welder ( Gas & Electric ) to benefit a greater number of students.


Year-2005

The School building housing the Farooq High School for Girls, that had become structurally unsafe, was reconstructed.


The Memon Educational & welfare society is the oldest registered memon organization in the history of Indian Memons, still engaged in welfare activities for the memon community, thousands of student still getting educational scholarship through them, hundreds of Medical patients are getting assistance and financial help for their treatment.
