“I cannot believe that the purpose of life is to be ‘happy’. I think the purpose of life is to be useful, to be responsible, to be honorable, to be compassionate. It is above all, to matter, to count, to stand for something to have made some difference that you lived at all.”
– Leo Rosten.
Najeeb is presently deployed in Dras Sector (UT of Ladakh), approximately 60 km
form Kargil towards Sonamarg at an altitude of approximately 14,000 ft as an RMO
(Regimental Medical Officer) of an Infantry Battalion since the last 18 months. He
provides medical cover to more than 800 men that are deployed at the location and
is the only medical personnel present at the location. His job primarily is to diagnose,
treat and evacuate (if necessary) the casualties occurring in his Area of
Responsibility.

Najeeb completed his initial schooling from Holy Family Convent High School,
Igatpuri and completed his M.B.B.S. from Dr Ulhas Patil Medical College & Hosp;
Jalgaon in 2014.
Post completion of his M.B.B.S; he worked as a Medical Officer in some of the
reputed hospitals in Nashik. He also worked as a “Medical Consultant” in Bosch Ltd
(Satpur, Nashik). To pursue his childhood passion of serving in the Armed Forces,
he appeared for the “SSC” interviews held at INHS Asvini, Mumbai. He cleared the
interview in the first attempt and further completed the subsequent medical
examination to confirm his place as an officer in the “Army Medical Corps” in 2018.

On receiving his call letter in 2019, he proceeded onto his first posting to MH
Dehradun. On getting commissioned as “Captain”, he served at one of the busiest
hospitals in the Armed Forces. He completed his Medical Officers Basic Course
(MOBC) at Lucknow in Jan 20 and shortly received his posting order to Dras, which
is the second coldest inhabited place in the world, having volunteered for the same.

Since the last 18 months, he has been experiencing temperatures ranging between
4⁰C to -55⁰C and snowfall of almost 20-25 ft during peak winters. It is the only
place where he is countering High Altitude Area, Active LC and Counter Insurgency.
He remains cut-off and confined to his base station at 14000ft for nearly 6-8 months
a year.

Having worked with the armed forces for nearly 3 years now, Najeeb strongly feels
there are many stigmas regarding the armed forces in the Memon community and he
wishes to educate and spread awareness regarding the same so that the armed
forces and the opportunities in the organisation are embraced more openly by the
Memon community. He is also a strong believer of making contributions to the
society and help bringing about a positive change in whatever way possible.

Kyc (know your community), initiative by Memon ID One Community, One ID (www.memonid.com) is a series of stories under the platform of #StoriesOfMemons on various Memon individuals & organizations established in India & abroad highlighting their contributions for welfare & upliftment of society & Memon community across the globe.
