In a mark of extraordinary achievement, a 24-years-old boy with mediocre background has got a chance to study Doctorate in the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB).

Azim Memon strongly believes in wordings of Stephen Curry, “It doesn't matter where you come from, what you have or don't have, what you lack, or what you have too much of. But all you need to have is faith in God, an undying passion for what you do and what you choose to do in this life, and a relentless drive and the will to do whatever it takes to be successful in whatever you put your mind to.”

He received his primary schooling from Iqra Primary School, Borsad and then joined Hanifa School [English Medium], Borsad from 6th standard. The decision to shift to Hanifa school brought about a major change in his attitude towards studies and other curricular activities.

Initially, he was an average academic student. Later he found interest in various sports activities and started practising Martial Arts. He participated in many Interschool competitions and won many medals for his school and town. He played in many District, State and National level tournaments and won medals throughout. He has played twice at International platforms and that experience catalyzed in him a feeling to make it big in life. This also helped in generating more focus towards studies.

He passed his Senior Secondary Exams with flying colours and went on to pursue his Bachelor of Engineering course in Chemical Engineering from OM Engineering College, Junagadh. Family played an important role as being from a humble background it was always difficult to arrange funds for further studies but all thanks to his parent’s support, particularly his mother, Mrs. Samim banu. He successfully graduated with a score of 9 CGPA. During his graduation, Azim constantly took part as well as organized many Technical events for his college. This experience developed the skill of entrepreneurship and further created hunger for more success.

He represented his college at international platforms like “Chem-Tech World Expo, Mumbai-2017”and “Story of Makers, Mumbai”. He completed his B.E. in Chemical Engineering with distinction in 2018. He also qualified All India GATE exam in 2018. During this period, he received a scholarship from Nathani Charitable Trust, Mumbai.

It was his dream to study at best institutes of India i.e. IITs for his further studies. After working for 6 months in Coaching institute, Azim got at opportunity to work at Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IITP) as Junior Research Fellow (JRF).

During this one-year period he was engaged in research on ‘Phase Change Material (PCM)’. Azim presented his research at “International Conference in Advances in Chemical Engineering-AdChe-2020” held at UPES, Dehradun. He published two research papers in reputed international Journals.

One more fascinating thing about Azim is, he works as a freelancer faculty of All India GATE Exam. He has already taught in many coachings across various Indian cities in coachings like GATEFORUM, Engineer’s Academy and ICE GATE Institute.

He received interview calls from IITs for Master of Technology (MTech) and Doctor in Philosophy (PhD) as a result of his outstanding success in GATE.
