In the bustling neighbourhood of Oshiwara, Mumbai, lives a man whose story is quietly reshaping what it means to dream big. Ashfaque Chunawala’s journey is one of courage, grit, and an unshakeable belief that hard work, financial discipline, and persistence can transform even the humblest beginnings into remarkable achievements.

Back in 2004, Ashfaque’s life took an unexpected turn. Forced to leave school after Class 10 to support his family, he stepped into the workforce as a retail store attendant earning a modest salary of just ₹1,500 a month. Though the paycheck was small, Ashfaque’s dreams were anything but. With the weight of responsibility on his shoulders, he navigated job after job over the next several years, constantly searching for opportunities that would offer more than a temporary livelihood.

Eventually, his diligence paid off when he became a manager at a skincare and apparel store. Yet even this milestone couldn’t quiet the restlessness in him—the feeling that he was destined for something greater, something that would allow him to create not just a career, but a legacy.

The turning point arrived in 2013, when Ashfaque stumbled upon an advertisement for a new ride-hailing app. It promised flexible earning opportunities and the chance to be his own boss. Though hesitant at first, he decided to take the plunge, becoming a part-time driver and securing a small, affordable car through the company’s support scheme.

The early days were anything but easy. Ashfaque balanced both his jobs—driving in the early morning hours and late at night, and managing the store during the day. His earnings were modest, but his determination was fierce. Every rupee saved was carefully accounted for. His sister, recognising his drive, stood by him, helping him buy a second car and encouraging him to keep moving forward.
With the combined income from driving and the store, Ashfaque’s savings began to grow. Seeing the potential for expansion, he approached a bank and secured a loan to purchase more vehicles. But instead of living comfortably with improved earnings, he chose to reinvest most of his profits into growing his venture. Even after meeting his loan obligations, he kept aside only what was necessary, using the rest to buy more cars and hire drivers.
Over time, his enterprise flourished—not just as a business, but as a source of employment and stability for many families. Ashfaque’s fleet became a symbol of hard work and self-belief, offering livelihood opportunities while empowering drivers to pursue their dreams without being held back by financial constraints.

Of course, the road was far from smooth. He faced setbacks when employees left abruptly, creating turbulence in the workplace. The biggest challenge, however, came with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, when lockdowns brought his business to a near halt. Yet, Ashfaque refused to give in to despair. He remained steadfast, carefully managing the crisis and steering his enterprise through the storm.
Today, Ashfaque is celebrated not only for his success but for his commitment to uplifting others. His drivers undergo extensive training in customer service and professional ethics, ensuring that the people who work with him are equipped not just to earn, but to thrive.
His story has earned recognition from leading platforms, and he continues to be an inspiring figure for first-generation entrepreneurs. Yet, Ashfaque remains grounded—his eyes set not on personal glory, but on the greater goal of empowering others and giving back to his community.

For the youth of the Memon community, his journey is a powerful testament: dreams don’t demand perfect circumstances, and success is forged not by privilege, but by resilience, discipline, and the will to keep moving forward, no matter how rough the road.
Ashfaque’s story is more than a tale of success—it’s a roadmap for courage, persistence, and the transformative power of believing in yourself.
